Enough of sitting around, watching Netflix. Just because we are graced with the winter months here in the Uk does not mean we should go into hibernation like grizzly bears. January brings a new year, time for a clean chapter some might say. Look on the positive side, longer days, lighter mornings and the promise of Spring on its way. In our case, the Brandon family sees January as a good excuse to take advantage of cheap holidays and that is exactly what we have done. We have booked a motorhome for the duration of February half term. In this post, I am going to share all of my knowledge and insights. In advance, you are welcome. Here are 10 reasons to go on a motorhome holiday this year
Motorhome holidays are a great excuse to get some fresh air
Fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat, so one of my many reasons to go on a motorhome holiday this year is simply just to get you and your family enjoying the outdoors. We all feel better when we face the day with a clear head and the kids are instantly on better form from spending the day outside. Pack wellies and raincoats, sunhats and trainers in preparation for a day of climbing rocks, searching for fossils and trekking coastal paths. Fresh air clears your lungs and helps fight off disease more efficiently due to healthier white blood cells. Fresh air promotes brain function and also gives you more energy.
There is no baggage limit when travelling in a motor home so take whatever you need. We will definitely be including all of our
This brings me onto my third reason as to why you should go on a motorhome holiday this year. There is so much storage in a motorhome. For starters a huge boot which has ample space for suitcases. We have decided we are going to pack all of our belongings into clear tubs and so we can just reach for what we need and be organised. There is a lot of cupboard space in the interior of the van and every bit of spare space has been cleverly modified for storage use. You can opt to have a bike rack added on to the back of your motorhome if you wish to take wheels also.
Motorhome holidays enable independence
Campsites are pretty safe and usually off road. Vehicles that do travel through the sites are required to stick to a speed limit. We are seasoned campers and glampers and I adore the way camping gives my Daughter a sense of responsibility. Her chores this summer included fitting the tent pegs, followed by some securing from me and collecting fresh water. I allowed her to do this on her own under my watchful eye as the freshwater facilities were in view. Parents are responsible for their children at all times when on any camp site but I feel it is a perfect setting to learn independence. I always ask for a pitch by the play area and so our Daughter can play safely on her own but still within my view.
For our first Motorhome holiday, we have chosen campsites with a view. If the mornings are too chilly then I plan to sit in the front of the cab and enjoy my morning coffee whilst taking in the rolling hills and sights of the coast. The view is really important to me when choosing a holiday, I like to start my day by practising optimism and gratitude so the setting really does make all the difference. Last summer my Daughter and I camped on a sea cliff edge. We pegged in hard and felt the breeze but the views were amazing. It was an unbeatable experience and we were rewarded with amazing sunsets at night and the feel of the warm sun as it rose in the morning. I will never forget that trip and it is way up there as one of my favourite camping experiences.
we are half way through this article and I still have so many reasons as to why you should go on a motorhome holiday.
Choose your own
itinery on a motorhome holiday
As long as there is a road then feel free to go where ever you like. We have a planned itinerary as we already know that we prefer coastal walks and seaside drives. Perhaps you prefer to park up and enjoy the scenery or fancy taking your bikes on a scenic cycle route? The company you hire your motorhome from should be able to provide you with ideas and information on which routes you can take in your selected area.
Take the whole family on holiday including the dog. Motorhomes can easily accommodate our furry friends depending on their size of course. A motorhome holiday is a perfect holiday for a dog as it entertains plenty of good walks and feeds at your leisure. do check with the site that you are planning on staying with that they accept dogs. I have noticed that some only accept certain breeds and sizes.
Learn a new hobby
Remember the day you first rode a bike or the year you passed your driving test? We never stop learning and since I became a parent, this phase is more apparent than ever. Motorhome holidays could become a hobby. There is always so much to do when on the road. Imagine learning to start a fire in the family fire pit or learning to rock climb? The possibilities are endless. I am determined to get my
Switch off and enjoy the present. We leave electronics at home when on camping holidays. Just one mobile phone in case of emergencies is all that I aim to pack. Most motorhomes have a TV if really needed to maybe catch up on the news but you could pop to a shop, buy a paper or even read a book. A recent study showed that the average adult spends around 3 hours per day on their smartphone. Imagine the family fun you could be having during that time. Make memories.
Get cosy with the family. Modern Motorhomes have onboard heating which saves making a camp fire or layering up for a nights sleep on the floor. It takes very little time to heat a small space so you can always be certain of a warm nights sleep.
