Tivoli Gardens are botanical gardens and a theme park situated in Copenhagen.
For Three years in a row we have visited Tivoli now so we are very familiar with the oldest theme park in Europe. It has lots to offer including gardens, rides and fantastic eateries. Walt Disney claims he got hes inspiration from here as a child and went on to produce the worlds most famous theme parks.
Tivoli is a vibrant, colorful park filled with happy faces.
Tivoli does not feel big at all and the layout is actually quite compact. Cafes and restaurants are amongst the gardens and delights of the particular flowers growing in the season. Last ear we visited in August and i was treated to displays of Dahlias and beautiful roses of all kinds. Unfortunately the sun was so bright which made for pretty useless photos!
We had a lovely time walking and taking in the atmosphere whilst eating ice creams from the ice cream stall.
Whilst on the subject of food, i hear that Groftons is the best place to eat at Tivoli. It is the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen and serves potato soup and fish balls amongst other delights. I watched a tv programme on BBC Two just recently and Rick Stein (famous for fish restaurants) was sampling the delights there. It looked great!
I really like the rides on offer at Tivoli. Amongst the normal thrill seeker rides you will find sweet attractions aimed at families. Like the Dragon boats on the boating lake, the fun house and our favourite, the vintage cars.
We have been taking Olivia on a ride called the flying trunk since she was two years old. It has 32 different fairytale scenarios and is just like being transported through a seated theatre show. It is one of the loveliest rides i have ever taken with her. I do know that somewhere amongst the theme park is a wooden roller coaster, creaky and noisy but i think that adds to the excitment!
Rides were a little expensive and so we limited riding only three attractions and we took our own picnic too. Simply because the weather was so warm and we wanted to sit on the provided deck chairs and enjoy a brass band. Olivia was also able to roll in the grass and burn off extra energy this way.
Tivoli is a theme park where you could quite easily spend the day. We only had four hours here on our previous trip as it was a port of call on our cruise with Celebrity cruises. We find the best way to see Copenhagen is to use the hop on tourist busses. They stop right outside the main attractions. Just be sure to check the times of the last busses back to the port!
If you are interested in visiting Tivoli you can check out the price list here, be sure to check out a price that includes rides if you have thrill seekers with you. Alternitively ou can just buy tokens from machines dottted around the park if you just want to sample the small rides with a young baby or child like we did.
